Try a Little Healthy-ness!

You hear it everywhere:
~"Lose Weight FAST!"
~"Illinois Mom Discovers new way to trim 6 pounds now!"
~"Foods NOT to EAT..."

But I have to wonder whether that's really... the best, most helpful way to slim down. Personally, I'm just trying to be healthy and that usually involves eating well. This, in fact, proves to be very tricky at times. Especially when I see McDonald's commercials all the time- it makes me want to throw in the towel and just binge forever: but I don't; compliments to my mother. She found a way to sneak vegetables into stuff that I love (and never would've suspected to be vegge infested). It's called the KALE SMOOTHIE (gaze upon its glory!)!

Yes... I know it looks narsty and don't get me wrong- I'm not one for green liquids (usually). But for a kale smoothie- I'll do anything. It's your average fruit smoothie but with a little kick o' something called kale. As Wikipedia puts it: "Kale is very high in beta carotene, vitamin K, vitamin C, lutein, zeaxanthin, and really rich in calcium. Kale, as with broccoli, contains sulforaphane (particularly when chopped or minced), a chemical with potent anti-cancer properties." Well jeez... that's a vegetable that should be in everyone's diet! So you make your average fruit smoothie (strawberries, bananas, your favorite type of orange juice {mine is strawberry, mango, banana, orange juice}, yogurt) and then add freshly ribbed kale. Ribbed refers to when you take the leafy greens off of the main stem that holds them all together (otherwise your smoothie will be really watery). And just remember- if you buy your kale fresh (like I do) then make sure you check for bugs, dirt, or other duties that might have found its way onto your leaf (and then wash your kale at least twice before using it in the smoothie).

*Reader then quickly rushes off to make the smoothie, tries it, and sighs contently at the first sip to a healthier lifestyle because hey- who wouldn't want 1 serving of vegetables, 2 servings of fruit, and 1 serving of dairy all in one delicious, freakishly-green, sweet, smoothie! {As the back of the Naked Juice Green Machine bottle says: "“Looks weird.” Sip. “Tastes amazing.” Sip. “Hey, 10 green turbo nutrients?” Sip. “Still looks weird.”"}*

From my taste buds to yours- Enjoy.
